Premises and Facilities

Watoto Pre-School is located in a beautifully designed, purpose-built building with exceptional outdoor play and garden areas for our exclusive use. We have an extensive range of high-quality equipment and resources carefully selected to ensure children receive first class, stimulating and varied experiences to extend their knowledge and education.

Our three main areas are designated to different age groups – under 2's (Sunshine Room), over 2's (Sunflower Room) and over 3's (Rainbow Room).  Equipment in each of the rooms has been selected specially to help children develop their skills; social and emotional, language and communication, expressive, physical development and understanding of the world around them.

We believe children learn best when they follow their own curiosity. Our play areas are set up to let children choose activities that interest them, encouraging confidence, independence, and a love for learning.

Our practitioners carefully observe each child to understand what they enjoy and are curious about. They use these interests to plan activities that build on what children already love, helping them learn through play.

In August 2024, we secured funding from the Government's 'Childcare Capital Expansion Grant'. This allowed us to create a more interactive and inclusive play and garden area.

Our outdoor area offers a wide range of opportunities for active play, creativity, and exploration. Children can run, climb, and balance in a safe and stimulating space that promotes both physical and imaginative development. We have a climbing frame, slide, and bikes which sit alongside engaging features such as a mud kitchen for messy play, water tunnels for splashing fun, and a rope climbing area that helps develop coordination and confidence. There’s something for every child to enjoy and discover in an environment designed to inspire energetic and adventurous play.

Each room opens directly into its own play area with safety surfaces, creating plenty of opportunities for movement and discovery. All outdoor spaces are connected and lead into the main hall, which serves as a dining area, quiet reading zone, and a space for additional activities or parent/carer meetings.

Keeping Our Preschool Safe and Secure

At Watoto Preschool, the safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority.

We understand that parents entrust us with their most precious treasures, and we take that responsibility very seriously. Here’s how we ensure a secure environment for all:

Controlled Access

Our main entrance is equipped with a fob-controlled access system, preventing unauthorised entry. Staff are trained to ensure the door remains closed at all times, and visitors are only admitted by authorised personnel and accompanied throughout their visit.

CCTV Coverage

For added peace of mind, we have CCTV cameras installed throughout the building and externally. This allows us to monitor activity at all times and quickly respond to any concerns, ensuring a safe environment for children and staff.

Supervision and Monitoring

Children are never left unsupervised near exit points. During arrival and departure times, a designated staff member monitors the entrance to prevent accidental exits.

Regular Safety Checks

We carry out daily safety checks of the premises, indoors and outdoors, and all equipment before children access any areas. These checks are documented and reviewed regularly to maintain a safe environment.

Comprehensive Policies

Our safeguarding and child protection policies are robust and reviewed annually. All staff receive ongoing training to ensure they understand and comply with these procedures. This includes emergency lockdown protocols, visitor supervision, and risk assessments for outings.

Social Media and Privacy

To protect children’s privacy, we have strict guidelines for staff and parents regarding social media use. No images or information about children are to be shared online with out the parents consent, ensuring that personal details remain secure.

How Parents Can Help Keep Our Preschool Secure

Your support is vital in maintaining a safe environment. Please follow these simple steps during drop-off and pick-up:

  • Close doors securely behind you when entering or leaving.

  • Do not allow tailgating – only let yourself in, even if you recognise the person behind you.

  • Sign in and out if you are visiting beyond drop-off or pick-up.

  • Report anything unusual to a member of staff immediately.

  • Ensure your child stays with you until handed over to staff.

A Message from Our Management Committee

“Your child’s safety is at the heart of everything we do. Thank you for working with us to keep our preschool secure and welcoming. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to speak to any member of our team. Together, we can make sure every child feels safe, happy, and cared for.”
